Buying optical transceivers is not difficult, but choosing the right one for your network — and avoiding common mistakes — requires a clear process.
This guide walks you through five key decisions before you place an order.
Step 1: Know Your Port Speed and Form Factor
Start with your switch or network device.

Step 3: Single-mode or Multi-mode Fiber?
This is one of the most common mistakes.

Do not mix SR with single-mode fiber, or LR with multi-mode fiber. The link will not come up.
Step 4: Commercial or Industrial Grade?
